Top 10 jobs for boys in Pakistan

Pakistani boys face many challenges in their lives, and the job market isn’t exactly friendly to them either. A lot of professions are dominated by men, who are always better paid than women, which can make it even harder for boys to find a job without support from their parents or other family members. However, there are still plenty of jobs out there that might be suitable for boys in Pakistan, whether they’re already looking or just hoping to find something interesting and exciting to do while they study.

1) Retail

Any job is a good job when you’re starting out in your career, but retail can be especially valuable. Not only do you learn how to deal with customers and handle money, but retail also trains you how to put yourself out there and sell yourself. In addition, it’s one of those industries that has consistently created new jobs over time and looks like it will continue to do so, giving even more reason to consider it as a promising career path for young men. From clothing stores like JCPenney and Old Navy to home improvement stores like Lowe’s and The Home Depot, retailers are always hiring—and looking for new talent who can jump into a supervisory role quickly. Look at these specific careers: (click on each one below)

2) Manufacturing and Industrial

For people who are just starting out, working as a truck or taxi driver can be a low-risk way to work and make some extra cash. While most transportation companies will require experience driving large trucks, an 18-year-old boy might be able to get away with less driving experience. Carrying cargo, delivering food or packages, and pulling trailers could easily fit into a teenager’s schedule, especially if they live near their workplace. As they become more experienced they may be able to handle longer hauls that take them further from home. No matter how much experience you have under your belt, transporting goods via car is one of many ways that teenage boys can work in Pakistan and make money online at home.

3) Transportation

Be a driver. Higher education isn’t required to become a taxi, Uber or Lyft driver. All you need is a car, insurance and a clean driving record. However, you might be able to earn more by attaining an advanced degree, such as an MBA. Drivers with advanced degrees tend to earn more because they can negotiate higher rates with clients due to their experience and knowledge of industry-specific jargon and strategies. You could also consider upskilling or looking for opportunities outside of transportation services, such as consulting or opening your own firm or company (if you are qualified).

4) Hotel and Hospitality

The hospitality industry has been a traditional entry-level industry into other lines of work. It’s also one of those areas that requires less schooling or training, but is full of potential for careers. Hospitality jobs can be found at hotels and resorts, restaurants, banquet facilities, cruise ships and more. From entry-level positions like housekeepers to managerial roles like hotel managers, you’ll find many options available with little formal education required. These positions often offer room and board as well as health benefits and retirement plans. Some establishments might even provide free tuition if you wish to pursue a degree while working there.

5) Agriculture

Agriculture is vital to every country’s economy. Not only does it provide food and fuel, but a huge portion of agricultural workers are employed by small farms or independent operators, giving it a Main Street quality that many other industries lack. The median salary for farmers, ranchers and fishermen was just over $30,000 annually. In addition to an annual income of more than $2 billion from livestock sales alone (mostly chickens), farmers can benefit from government programs that cover some costs on maintaining their land or water resources through USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and Farm Service Agency (NRCS/FSA) grants.

6) I.T (Information Technology)

Most organizations require you to pass an exam before hiring you. However, there are exceptions. If your parents have contacts at an organization or can get you an interview, that is likely a faster way to get hired than going through exams. But if your first job will be as a security guard or something similar where a degree isn’t necessary, then consider just attending a two-year school and getting certified so that employers know you have some level of education.

7) Construction & Real Estate

The world of construction and real estate is always booming, giving job seekers a constant need to expand their staff. Construction and building trade careers often require little to no experience—and lots of hard work. What could be better than starting a career that already needs more help? If you’re looking for something with more room to grow, look into construction management or real estate management (or both). Real estate development is one of those industries where there’s always plenty of work to do, but it’s also one where you get paid well to figure it out as you go along.

8) Civil Services

The civil services are an attractive option for educated men who want to work for their country, rather than corporations. There are two main branches of civil service: Federal and Provincial. You can learn more about joining these agencies on their respective government websites or through recruitment fairs. The Pakistani government works hard to recruit a diverse range of people into its agencies, so don’t hesitate to apply! If you’re successful, you may have a career that takes you all over your country, giving you opportunities to travel and see more of it—all while working to make it better.

9) Government Jobs

With its economy growing at a steady clip, Pakistan is a country on an upswing. And with that comes more opportunities for international workers. Specifically, you can find positions within governmental agencies and private companies that need people to fill roles as drivers, translators, and entry-level engineers (for instance). According to World Education Services’ index of employment conditions around the world, Pakistan scored a 50 out of 100—which is considered average. Employment conditions have been deemed favorable by experts. Opportunities are there; it just comes down to what you’re looking for. You can check potential job sites online or through work agencies located within Islamabad or Karachi—Pakistan’s two largest cities.

10) Teaching & Education

Teaching is an excellent choice for many young people. If you have a knack for working with children, consider becoming a teacher. The salaries may not be as high as they are in other fields, but there’s a lot of satisfaction that comes from helping mold young minds and watching them grow and learn. For those who love teaching but also enjoy more creative endeavors, you might want to look into educational administration. This can involve anything from running after-school programs to serving as headmaster at private schools or even public universities. A bachelor’s degree is usually required (or at least preferred) when you apply for these positions.
